Tante Gorilla makes handmade cute functional backpacks for children. Camilla Greve Holmestad, who is the owner of Tante Gorilla, got the inspiration from her own two children and her previous job as a pedagogue.
“The design is made with the primary purpose, that the child by itself should be able to use the backpack – and also would want to wear it. As we want to teach our children to be self-reliant, we also need to give them items, that supports it,” Camilla says.
The backpacks are 100% made by hand in Denmark with a nordic look – and with the child in focus. It has been important for her to create an aesthetic backpack, but most of all one that is functional and practical. The bottom is made by real suede to make it more hardwearing and the shoulder straps are adjustable with easy strap stoppers. In this way the children adjust the backpack themselves to make it fit perfectly on the back, and thereby make the child much more self-reliant in an early age.
The shoulder straps are fixed higher on the backpack and not in the corners as the old designs from the 80’s. This avoids that the bottom of the backpack folds and to irritate the back when weight is in it. The backpack will keep its shape both on the back, and when it is not worn.
