A lot of nordic artisans are focusing on preserving the origin of their materials in the final design and producing as sustainable as possible.
One to display and remember is Bente Hovendal, who not only make wonderful sustainable furniture under the name woodnwonder, but also embed a fantastic story in the products with her chainsaw.
woodnwonder is sculptural, sustainable, handcrafted wooden furnishings, which are produced with some fine-tuned chainsawing and then shaped and hand polished, which gives soul and personality to each piece of furniture. Every piece is unique and custom made and crafted from locally grown PEFC and FSC certified wood.
The furniture is usable while still holding on to the original life of the tree within the design. Natural shapes stick out from the form, there may be cracks in the surfaces and traces of the use of the chainsaw.
Every quirk becomes a part of the design and a wonder within the whole form. All as a final tribute to nature, all her materials used in creation of a piece of furniture, such as chainsaw oil, petrol and surface treatment, are environmentally friendly.
