In Art, Nordic Artisans by the NOORVERK team

Marie Langaa is a trained ceramist from the Glas- & Ceramic School on Bornholm, Denmark in 2008. All her handmade ceramic cups and jugs are designed and produced in her own workshop in Sorø. She primarily works with molded porcelain items that can be used in the everyday life. She is fascinated by the functionality as her items should be handled and used every day. And in this way she hopes to create a relation between the user and the item.

“My items usually originates from an underlying idea and a play with manipulating the materials. I am drawn by the meeting between materials and recognizability,” Marie Langaa explains.

The ability of the clay to reproduce the textile material creates a texture that appeals to our sense of touch. The classic door knob, which is used here as a handle on The Teabag, also reflects the grip of the hand, thus highlighting a story about closeness and intimacy. Marie Langaa works in the field of tension between applied art and conceptual craft. The textile teapot tells a story of homeliness through the recognisability of the materials. An essential objective for her is to create an illusion – a visual trick that challenges the beholder and questions what the eye sees.

This creates a fascinating contract in the expression when the soft textural meets the porcelain. The jug is thought as a milk jug but can also be used for juice, lemonade or water. It can contain 0,5 liter.
