Over the last decade Lykke Steenbach Josephsen has established Lykkegalleriet and herself as one of the most talented portrait painters on the Danish art scene. Her portraits are striking, instinctive and driven by a deep understanding of the persons that she portrays, resulting in extraordinary, strong stories told in a beautiful visual language. Playing with the idea of personality, she often blends animal characteristics in the sitter’s features.
Feminine beauty. Colour. A hint of the ethereal. Vibrant and modern portraits. The Danish creator has an amazing ability to capture emotion (look at the eyes in her portraits!) and nature (her use of animals is gorgeous & unexpected). She infuses everything with a magical and quite playful feeling (check out her uninhibited use of color). The colours and poses are youthful, fun yet thought provoking.
Lykke Steenbach Josephsen is both an artist and a creative entrepreneur and she owns Lykkegalleriet, best translated as Gallery of Happiness. And that is exactly what we think Lykke’s unique paintings bring to the world.
Her works have been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions in Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Spain and Hong Kong, China. In 2011, she was selected as one of the 40 finalists among 3.000 Nordic artists in the prestigious Brewer J.C. Jacobsen’s Portrait Award at the Museum of National History in Denmark and in 2013 Lykke was awarded as ‘One to Watch’ by Saatchi Gallery.
