Meet Broundal Handcraft – a small workshop making handmade leather accessories and run by designer and leather artisan Daniel Friis Broundal. Daniel is one of the many nordic artisans we meet every day, who is very talented and really passionate about his craft. The workshop is placed in a small island in the northern part of Denmark where all items are crafted by hand.
The techniques for working with the leather are based on old traditions within leather craftsmanship. All the products are made of vegetable tanned aniline leather from Italy, which means the leather is tanned with natural tannins from for example bark and fruits and that the leather surface will keep its natural shape. Naturally tanned leather will easierly change its patina when used and exposed to sunlight, and the leather will have a unique structure that reveals the animals lives and movement. This makes every product unique and add the charme, that Daniel wishes to see in everything he makes.
All parts of the process are made by hand also sewing the seams and polishing the edges. A great honour is put into the seams as this will make the products last longer – every stitch is hand sewn with saddler stitches and waxed linen thread. No sewing mashine can make a stronger seam!
We have displayed a few of the handmade leather items from Brounda Handcraft below, but you can see the entire collection here: https://noorverk.com/artisan/broundal-handcraft/
